Administrative Assistant
After an exciting season of immense growth, the Young New Yorkers’ Chorus (YNYC) seeks an Administrative Assistant to help support our general operations.
Reports To: Alex Canovas, General & Artistic Director
Location: 75% remote, 25% on-site
Application Deadline: Sunday, September 22nd, 2024
Desired Start Date: Monday, October 7th, 2024
Reporting to the General & Artistic Director, the work of the Administrative Assistant is 75% remote and 25% on-site. It’s essential that the successful candidate be comfortable working from home while proactively communicating progress and roadblocks. The Administrative Assistant is required to attend all YNYC concerts and dress rehearsals (dates below), special events, and at least one rehearsal for each of our Ensembles each month (i.e. 2 rehearsals a month.)
This position is the first ever paid administrative role YNYC has ever hired for, and as such we seek candidates who are passionate, flexible, dedicated, and who thrive in highly variable environments. The duties of this position will evolve over the course of the season as they adjust to the needs of the organization.
Who’s a good fit for this role?
You’re passionate about the cultivation and creation of new art — experience and familiarity with choral music is a plus, but not a dealbreaker. You might be a student at a conservatory, a recent graduate looking for some extra work, or further along in your career looking to supplement your work by getting involved in a growing organization with a bright future. You love administrative work and have a passion for forms, spreadsheets, and new apps that help arts organizations grow. The idea of constantly evolving work thrills you to no end, and you enjoy having no day be the same.
If you don’t possess all of the skills listed below, don’t fret! We’re very committed to helping everyone in the YNYC community grow, and that includes the successful candidate for this role.

About YNYC
The Young New Yorkers’ Chorus (YNYC) fosters a vibrant choral community through singing, performance, and collaboration with emerging composers. We work to ensure that New Yorkers have a haven that brings music to those who need it, and amplifies the voices of those who wish to make it.
Established in 2001, YNYC brings together the finest choral musicians from the tens of thousands of young people who flock to the city for its excitement, art, and culture. Comprising both a mixed and a treble ensemble, YNYC has the unique pleasure of performing for a large and devoted audience, exposing music lovers of all demographics to the beauty and transcendent potential of the choral arts.
Led by General & Artistic Director Alex Canovas, YNYC performs a vast variety of music in venues including Avery Fisher Hall, Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Symphony Space, The Knitting Factory, Brooklyn Fire Proof, the New York Botanical Garden, Chicago Symphony Center, and many of the finest churches in New York City. Committed to the growth of new repertoire, YNYC debuts three original works annually through its Competition for Young Composers.
Our Mixed Ensemble rehearses on Tuesday evenings, and our Treble Ensemble rehearses on Wednesday evenings, both from 7:00pm to 9:30pm, at The Church of St. Mary the Virgin (Times Square). Both groups specialize in the performance of new music by young and emerging composers, though they do perform repertoire from other time periods.
YNYC is currently experiencing a period of significant growth — we were named the winner of the The 2023 American Prize in Choral Performance (Community Division), had both of our Ensembles perform at American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) conferences this past season, and have had members appear in performances at Carnegie Hall for two consecutive years. We expect this growth to continue, and the successful candidate for the Administrative Assistant position will be a huge part of that!
