To the friends, family, and supporters of the Young New Yorkers’ Chorus —
In light of the spread of the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, you’ve likely been receiving messages from organizations canceling events out of “an abundance of caution.” We’re sad to announce that this is another: the YNYC Mixed Ensemble will not be performing its planned Kings & Queens – Night 1 concert on Saturday, March 14, nor will the Women’s Ensemble perform Kings & Queens – Night 2 on Saturday, March 21.
We’re devastated not to be able to sing for you all in the next few weeks, but we feel it’s important to take this measure in order to ensure the health and safety of our membership, volunteers, audience, and respective communities and to minimize contact with large groups in order to protect the most vulnerable among us.
The silver lining to all of this uncertainty and fear has been the confirmation of how strong our bonds are. Our membership and leadership have responded to the ever-changing events with such flexibility and grace, making it once again clear how much this group of people nurtures and relies on one another. We’re unendingly grateful to the organizations we’d partnered with for these concerts, the Jamaica Performing Arts Center and the Irondale Center, and look forward to working with them soon.
As we begin to understand the impact of COVID-19 on our planned activities for the remainder of our season, your continued support means a great deal to us. Refunds are forthcoming for those who previously purchased tickets to our concerts, but we would gratefully welcome donations of any amount to support us in what will certainly be a rocky time for countless arts organizations. Please visit ynyc.org/support-us if you’d like to do so; we’re inexpressibly appreciative of every penny.
Above all, we’re thankful for you, the people who support us with your ears and your applause and your hearts. You are the reason we come together, and you are the reason we will continue to, once things have settled. We look forward to singing for you again as soon as possible.
Alex Canovas, Artistic Director & the Young New Yorkers’ Chorus Family
